Better trades are to be had in August...

dunnAccording to Corey Brock of Padres.com: "The Padres are looking at adding a starting pitcher, though that might be difficult to pull off before the Trade Deadline." This post was originally going to be about a starting pitcher such as Jake Westbrook or Ted Lilly. But since, starting pitchers can be had in August, I'm going to speculate about what I feel this team desperately needs to not only win this division but make some noise in the playoffs. OFFENSE!

Let's face it, the Nationals are out of it this year. And outfielder Adam Dunn is out of Washington at the end of the season. Dunn has pure power, strikes out ALOT, but definitely can man handle PETCO Park on any day of the week. His contract for the rest of the year is affordable and I believe we have prospects to acquire this slugger. It might cost us a Simon Castro and/or Corey Luebke, plus maybe Will Venable and another prospect. Worth it? Absolutely! Dunn will instantly provide protection for Adrian and show our hitters PETCO Park is not as bad as they think.

theriotAlso in the Corey Brock's article, Miguel Tejada, Jeff Keppinger of the Houston Astros, and Ryan "The Riot" Theriot of the Chicago "102 years and counting" Cubs were all mentioned as infield depth trade candidates. All three have positives and could help this team out...my favorite of this trio would have to be Theriot with his combination of hitting for average, good base running, and the fact that he is a comedian in the clubhouse and will add to our "team chemistry" - they don't call him "The Riot" for nothing! Adding Dunn and Theriot to our lineup would give us that combination of speed and power that will give us balance and put the Padres in great position to run away with the division.

Then make a trade in August for a starter, and there you go!
